NIA searches Saokat Molla’s home and party office, son questioned in Bhangar blast case
A political controversy erupted after a video allegedly showing Uttar Pradesh Congress chief Ajay Rai making objectionable remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Mahoba Superintendent of Police Shashank Singh surfaced on social media. The BJP strongly criticised Rai over the alleged comments, with party leaders accusing him of crossing the limits of political decorum.
The incident reportedly took place during Ajay Rai’s visit to Mahoba in Uttar Pradesh, where he had gone to meet a NEET aspirant who was allegedly abducted, held captive for 16 days, tortured and sexually assaulted before being rescued by police. During interactions with local people, Rai was allegedly heard using abusive language against the Prime Minister and also making remarks targeting Mahoba SP Shashank Singh.
Earlier this month, Ajay Rai had been admitted to Medanta Hospital in Lucknow after his health suddenly deteriorated. At that time, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had publicly wished the Congress leader a speedy recovery. The latest controversy emerged shortly after Rai recovered and resumed political activities.
Ajay Rai had previously made allegations against individuals associated with PM Modi during the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. He had claimed that attempts were made to “buy” him politically and alleged that Arvind Kejriwal was later brought to Varanasi to contest against Modi when those efforts failed. Rai had also criticised the Prime Minister over economic issues, alleging that despite being in power for 10 years, Modi was focused on “making reels and distributing toffees abroad.”
Reacting to the latest remarks, BJP spokesperson Rakesh Tripathi said Ajay Rai had “crossed all limits of decency” and accused Congress leaders of competing over “who can use dirtier language” against the Prime Minister. BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya also criticised Rai, stating that despite PM Modi publicly wishing him well during his illness, the Congress leader was now allegedly using “undignified language” against him.
